Choreographer and dancer Maja Delak (1969, Novo mesto) studied contemporary dance at CNDC L’Esquisse in Angers, France, and at numerous dance seminars. Between 1993 and 2002 she was a member of the international dance group En-Knap and led the initiative for the formation of the secondary education programme in contemporary dance at the Pre-School Education, Grammar and Arts Grammar School Ljubljana. In her choreographic opus, Maja Delak has travelled many worlds, which –  in spite of various themes and modes of work – converge into and form an anchoring point of her dance poetics, with which she ever more clearly defines the methodologies of contemporary dance.

In 2006, Maja Delak established Emanat Institute, which aims for the affirmation of contemporary dance through stage production, publishing (Transitions series) and education programmes (Agon). In 2010 she was awarded the Prešeren Fund Award for the performances Expensive Darlings, Serata Artistica Giovanile and Ways of Love and her continuing contribution to the affirmation of contemporary dance. In 2013 her performance Shame won best performance award at the biennial Gibanica (Moving Cake) Festival of Slovene Dance. Also in 2013 she and Luka Prinčič received the Golden Bird Award, presented by the Liberal Academy, Association for Political Democracy and Liberalism Research. In 2015 the Collective of dance pedagogues of Secondary Preschool Education & Gymnasium Ljubljana – Contemporary dance programme (SVŠGL) won the Ksenija Hribar Award for pedagogical work. In 2019, she was the recipient of the Ksenija Hribar Award for her choreographic opus.
