Kaja Janjić (1984) is a contemporary dancer, performer, choreographer, musician, and teacher. After completing the dance programme at the Pre-School Education, Grammar and Art Grammar School in Ljubljana (1999–2003), she continued her studies at the Experimental Academy of Dance in Salzburg, graduating in 2006 in contemporary dance, ballet, and choreography. In the same year, with the performance Canon and the Body, she began a long-term collaboration with the dance-choreographic duo Rosana Hribar and Gregor Luštek. In 2009, she collaborated as a guest artist with the international group EnKnap, and in the same year began another long-term collaboration with choreographer Matjaž Farič with the performance Shiver. In 2012, she joined the contemporary cabaret group Red Cabaret and performed in Three Fingers Below the Belly Button, directed by Maruša Oblak and produced by Mladinsko Theatre. From 2012 to 2014, she took part in the project of the international network DCL – Dance Communication Lab (Dance Explorations Beyond Front@) under the choreographic direction of Robert Clark.
Her work spans dance, theatre, cabaret, and performances for children. As an artist in contemporary dance theatre, she is interested in the synergies and intersections of movement, music, scenography, video, and choreography. As an author and choreographer, she created the award-winning dance miniature Exorcism of You My Love in 2010, and in 2013, together with Matic Bobnar, her first full-length project, Pas De Tea. In 2016, she created the site-specific movement-visual performance Cyanosis (Cianoza) as part of the festivals Lighting Guerrilla and Ukrep – Festival of Dance Perspectives. In 2023, she created the performance Why So Angry? Why Not!? and the dance duet Morpheme with Alja Lacković. As a choreographer, she has collaborated with Gea Erjavec, director Jari Juutinen (Dance Forum Celje) and with the sound performance artist Urška Preis. She has choreographed several theatre productions and composed original music for dance performances. As a dance pedagogue, she collaborates with various organisations, including Dance Forum Celje and Dance Theatre Ljubljana.
Since 2015, she has also performed as a musical artist under the pseudonym Fraw Blanka, and is currently working with the independent label Munje Records. In 2022, she released her debut album Side Effects.
