Dragana Alfirević (1976, Belgrade, Serbia) is an independent cultural and artistic practitioner working as a choreographer, dancer, dance teacher and producer in the field of contemporary performing arts. She studied art history in Belgrade, completed specialist studies within the Body Unlimited programme at the Academy of Dramatic Art in Novi Sad, and earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Art and Humanities programme at the Open University (UK).
She is the co-founder of the Balkan Nomad Dance Academy and member and producer of Nomad Dance Academy Slovenia, of which she has been president since its foundation. She is also the initiator and co-founder of STANICA, a contemporary dance service (founded in 2005) in Belgrade, and since 2012 co-curator and co-producer of the international contemporary dance festival CoFestival in Ljubljana. She is also active at the international level, where she actively co-creates content in international networks (Dance On Pass On Dream On, Life Long Burning, Imaginary School, etc.)
As a choreographer, she has created or co-created more than 15 full-length performances and several short choreographies. As a choreographer she also participates in theatre performances in public institutions in Ljubljana and beyond. She transfers her choreographic knowledge, working methods and tactics to other fields as well: curating festivals, planning and executing artistic events and journalistic contributions. She thinks about choreographic and dance knowledge in an extremely wide range and in emphasising and bridging theory and practise and transferring knowledge and tools to a wider range of social activities. This is particularly evident in her (co-)curatorial contributions to festivals and discursive formats, including: ImPuls Tanz (Vienna), Kondenz (Belgrade), Locomotion (Skopje), DansCentrum Väst (Göteborg) or the Grand ReUnion initiative, to name only few festival and discursive formats in the international space.
Her skills, which extend from an artistic-authorial approach to the field of production, were also recognised by the jury of the Contemporary Dance Society of Slovenia and she was awarded the Ksenija Hribar Award for her production work in 2019.
