Minka Veselič Kološa (1960, Ptuj) graduated from the Faculty of Education in Maribor in 1982. She received her dance training at international dance schools and academies in Austria, Germany, Belgium, Hungary and the Netherlands. She danced at the student dance company Point / Magra, the ballet studio of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor, Dance Centre Maribor, dance theatre Aldea and Plesna izba Maribor (The Maribor Dance Room).

Minka’s dance works include evening-length performances and a number of short choreographies. She performed in the performances by choreographers Maja Milenović Workman and Ingrid Kerec and appeared in opera and ballet productions of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor. She was choreographer and movement adviser in many theatre, puppet and music performances at home and abroad. The founder of Plesna izba Maribor, Minka also took up directing the centre’s final productions, which were for a number of years presented on the big stage of the Slovene National Theatre Maribor.

Minka taught contemporary dance at the Maribor Music and Ballet Conservatory, Dance Centre Maribor and Plesna izba Maribor (PIM), at winter and summer dance schools as well as led workshops for students of different levels.

She has contributed significantly to the development of contemporary dance in Slovenia, acting – among other – as president of the Association of Slovenian Dance Companies, president of the dance board at the Union of Cultural Organisations Maribor, member of the dance board at the Union of Cultural Organisations Slovenia, founding member of the Contemporary Dance Association Slovenia, artistic leader and choreographer at Point / Magra, founder and artistic director of Plesna izba Maribor (PIM) and, since 1989, as dance advisor at the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia.

Working in the field for over four decades, Minka Veselič Kološa has been a leading figure in the development of organisation and production conditions in the field of contemporary dance, whose dedication and vision energised and helped realise an array of artistic and educational ideas and initiatives in Maribor.
