choreographer, dancer, performer, pedagogue
Snježana Premuš (1973, Maribor) started dancing at Plesna Izba Maribor. After graduating from the London Contemporary Dance School in 1998, she continued to expand her knowledge and skills at different international choreographic and improvisation projects in Glasgow, Paris, Vienna, Berlin, Pamplona, Athens and Ljubljana (On the Edge Festival, Paris; DanceWeb scholarship, Vienna; Tanzfabrik Berlin scholarship, etc.). In 2012 she completed specialisation in Body Mind Centering, obtaining a certificate in embodied anatomy and yoga.
Her artistic interests focus on the body and corporeal presence. Not understanding the body not as a mere “body image” or as a mechanism has led the critics to describe corporeality in her performances as “a sonic manifestation of the corporeal split” (Rok Vevar, Amplified Body) or “a performance of meta-corporeal, metaphysical landscapes of either comical, fantastical or metaphysical imagery” (Katja Praznik, Move As).
Snježana has collaborated with many international groups, producers and festivals, such as Robin Howard Theatre, London; Theater am Halleschen Ufer, Berlin; Festival Exodos, En-Knap, Betontanc, Flota Institute, Dance Theatre Ljubljana, Contemporary Dance Week Zagreb, Isadora and Raymond Research Centre Athens, etc.).
In 2009 Snježana teamed up with choreographers and dancers Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik and Gregor Kamnikar and co-founded Federacija Institute. The association has been (co-)producing her work ever since. Besides her performance work she has been involved in socially engaged projects as well as worked regularly with young people and socially vulnerable groups on her own or with the Federacija collective. Since 2010 she shares the position of artistic leader at Federacija with Andreja Rauch Podrzavnik and has been the institute’s director since 2012.
