Ivan Mijačević (Ptuj, 1979) is a maker with versatile artistic skills – a creator, researcher and pedagogue in the fields of dance and music and an assistant teacher of preschool children. He received his Master’s degree in the dissemination of dance in a contemporary context from the University of Music and Dance in Cologne (HfMT Köln) in 2015. He graduated in choreography and dance performance from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD) and the Academy of Dance in Ljubljana. He studied music pedagogy (1998-2004, University of Maribor) and classical piano performance (1998-2000, Maribor Music and Ballet Conservatory).
He’s a founding member of the artistic collectives inability crew,  sz3 (Ivan Mijačević and Aleš Zorec) and danceCO and author of a music teaching system based on the physical – movement and dance – experience in dealing with the parameters of sound, the elements of music and the musical morphology Terpsichorean Sonics. He teaches music subject curricula in the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of AME – Academy of Dance.
In his artistic and pedagogical work, he uses holistic and integrative approaches to understand the technologies of research and creation. He facilitates empowerment and emancipation in decision-making processes and the decolonisation of the imagination. He often creates transdisciplinary group works that play at the intersection of life and art.
He composes music and designs choreography for drama, puppet and dance theatre. In the last five years he has created music and choreography for performances at Slovene National Theatres in Ljubljana, Maribor and Nova Gorica, Maribor Puppet Theatre, Prešeren Theatre Kranj, among others. Between 2017 and 2022 he was a member of the expert commission for contemporary dance at JSKD Slovenia.
As a mentor, advisor and teacher of music, dance improvisation, composition, contemporary dance techniques and stage movement, he has worked at SEAD Salzburg, SNDO Amsterdam, National Academy of Dance in Rome, AME – Slovenian Academy of Dance, AGRFT Ljubljana, Academy of Dramatic Arts Zagreb, University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main, University of Music and Dance Cologne, Academy of Music and Dance Jerusalem, Performact Torres Vedras, Tanzfabrik Berlin, Drama Teatro Modena, Vertigo Jerusalem, Yasmeen Godder Studio Tel Aviv-Yafa, SVŠGUGL and WDSF – World Dance Sports Federation, Carmina Slovenica… His collaborations were presented and awarded in Europe, America and Asia.
