Dušan Teropšič (1967, Kranj, Slovenia) studied mathematics and physics at the Faculty of Education in Ljubljana. He started dancing in 1989, when he joined the dance company Nova in his hometown Kranj. He later trained in Intakt Dance Studio, Dance Theatre Ljubljana and at numerous contemporary dance and physical theatre workshops, as well as danced for five years in the France Marolt Student Folk Dance Group. In the 1990s he started working with acclaimed Slovenian choreographers and theatre directors, performing in dance and theatre productions that were presented nationally and internationally. He is making his own work as well as choreographing for the theatre. His solo performance are often deeply personal, full of humour and self-irony. Characteristic for his solos are also miniature objects that help him create a universe of his own, dissolving and playing with the ordinary dimensions of space. He has been a member of the Contemporary Dance Association Slovenia and has been working as a freelance performer since 1996. He has worked closely and extensively with Glej Theatre and Dance Theatre Ljubljana. Dušan is one of the co-founders of the physical-theatre company Fourklor and the founder of KUD NOR Kranj. He has been artistic director, pedagogue and choreographer at the physical theatre company Mamut since 1997.

An experienced dance teacher, he taught movement classes at the drama/theatre programme at the Nova Gorica Grammar School and the at the contemporary dance programme of the Pre-school Education, Grammar and Arts Grammar School in Ljubljana. He gives workshops in physical theatre, contemporary dance, choreography, martial, circus and aerial arts, contact technique in improvisation, dance video, climbing, monocycle, etc.

The characteristic feature of his recent work are elements of martial arts, which he combines skilfully with physical theatre components. His interests also include dance video, focusing on ‘capturing the moment’, the dancing body in space and time, as he explores the “one shot” technique, employing the camera as part of the choreography or using different moving cameras and perspectives.
