choreographer, dancer, performer, improviser

Jan Rozman (1991, Kranj, Slovenia) is a freelance dancer, choreographer, performer and performance maker based between Ljubljana and Berlin. He discovered dance at an early age at the Qulenium Cultural Association in Kranj. He finished the contemporary dance programme at the Pre-school Education, Grammar and Arts Grammar School in Ljubljana and studied choreography at the School for New Dance Development in Amsterdam. In 2018 he completed his MA in Solo/Dance/Authorship at the Inter-University Centre for Dance Berlin (HZT) with the performance f(being). In 2016 he also graduated in physiotherapy from the Faculty of Health Sciences in Ljubljana.

He has worked with Slovenian and foreign choreographers in different dance and improvisation projects (Milan Tomášik, Katja Legin, André Uerba, Anna Aristarkhova, Boris Charmatz…).

In his artistic practice he is interested in and engaged with notions of extended bodies, material semiotics, gaps, errors & confusions, ecology, imagination, (science) fiction and humour in a search of relevant performative articulations for the post-internet / anthropocene era.

He created several author works, most recently screamage (2023),  Things Thing (2021), MEMEMEME (2019), Thinging (2018) and f(being) (2017) and performed at festivals in Slovenia (Gibanica, Mladi levi, Cofestival) and abroad (Open Spaces, PAF Berlin, Tanzhafen). He has been part of the technoburlesque Image Snatchers since 2020.

He received the danceWEB scholarship in 2019, and the Ksenija Hribar Award as promising choreographer in the same year. In 2020 he was a resident of the GPS program at Movement Research in NYC and together with collaborators started developing a new work for young audiences in the frame of a residency at the FELD Theater in Berlin. In 2021 he recieved GIBANICA Jury Award at the 10th Biennial of Slovenian Contemporary Dance for his performance Thinging.
